Summary and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly motivated team member to join the Mazen R&D team! In this role, you will support the R&D team by consistently producing high quality plants as well as seeds that meet company standards and while following all compliance requirements.
Key responsibilities:
People Leadership

This position supports basic greenhouse and lab operations to support development of our maize produced vaccine products

Perform plant and seed production-based activities with commercial crops in a laboratory/
-
greenhouse setting to support plant science research

Hand watering, fertilizing, pollinating and plant maintenance
-
Sampling, transplanting, and discarding plants
-
Planting, harvesting, shelling, and counting seeds
-
Assist with data collection and plant performance observations
-
May include weekend and holiday hours
-
Demonstrate the ability to use relevant methodology in processing samples, producing plant samples and generating data
-
Responsible for the production of high-quality plant material for the research team by setting up pots, irrigation, chemical applications, day-to-day monitoring and cleaning the space (before and after), & providing facility records, while following the approved study protocol, applicable methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), Safety, Biosafety and Stewardship Guidelines

Responsible for GH waste management and disposal

Capable of communicating experimental results, activity status and potential concerns in an effective and timely manner

This position will work internally with members of the R&D team to meet agreed technical expectations, solve study problems and maintain operations
-
This position will collaborate externally with Stewardship, Safety and Biosafety to ensure compliance to specified guidelines
-
This position is responsible for performing work in the laboratory and the greenhouse based on stakeholder feedback (protocols) and under compliance standards
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to perform all physical duties required in greenhouse operations

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Need to be agile and adapt project priorities and deadlines

Good organization and attention-to-details skills

Experience to competently address technical problems, communicate with peers and supervisor with results, activity status and potential concerns in an effective and timely manner

Flexible about the multi-site character of the job (e.g., traveling to multiple greenhouses, working with multiple teams). Must have valid driver's license.

Licensed NC pesticides applicator

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-
BS degree or equivalent in agronomy, horticulture or plant science related field or an associate degree with 2 years of experience in plant biology

Experience working with transgenic corn
-
Understanding of maize biology and genetics
